Benefits of West Coast Pilates

  • West Coast Pilates, later known as Fletcher Pilates®, was created by Ron Fletcher a professional Martha Graham dancer and incorporates more dance elements than other Pilates methods…

  • While all Pilates methods focus on strengthening your core, West Coast Pilates also emphasizes extension from it for improved elongation of the spine, space in the joints, and resistance to gravity and compression.

  • Movement focus: While some Pilates methods focus on a repertoire of exercises and others by the region of the body or muscles engaged, the West Coast focuses on movement allowing for greater flexibility attenuating your lesson to the body’s needs that day, but also connecting activities in daily life to those taught in the studio.

  • Broader range of movement: Some Pilates methods restrict the range of movement to the box of the body and even limit full knee extension but West coast Pilates allows for a full range of motion. This is in line with CINK teachings on Functional Hypermobility™ that empowers students to maintain cohesive support through the entirety of their body’s movements instead of losing control to the point of instability on end and brittle rigidity on the other.
